Digital Well-being Starts with US: A Consultation Report Guiding Schools from Awareness to Action
Digital technologies play an increasingly central role in the lives of children and young people, shaping how they learn, communicate, and engage with the world. Alongside new opportunities for creativity, connection, and learning, this growing digital presence also raises important questions about well-being in educational settings.
The digi.well Scoping Report is the first key milestone of the digi.well project. The report aims to provide a thorough and grounded understanding of digital well-being, combining academic research with insights gathered directly from school pupils, teachers, education professionals, victim support officers and stakeholders across Europe.
Adopting a dual approach, the report synthesises existing literature on well-being in the digital environment while also exploring lived experiences through focus group consultations in Portugal, Serbia, and Slovenia, as well as at EU level. Digital well-being is understood as children’s and young people’s individual experience of balance between the opportunities and risks of digital technologies — recognising both their potential benefits and their challenges.
By bringing together theory and practice, the scoping report lays the foundation for future educational, awareness-raising, and capacity-building activities within the digi.well project, supporting schools in developing comprehensive and inclusive strategies for digital well-being.
